The club was formed in 1905 by Mr H A Mears, and is currently in its centenary year. Chelsea have been seen as the glamour team of English football based on the stylish Kings Road at Stamford Bridge in the heart of affluent West London. Chelsea however in recent years have been accused of trying to buy success in the form of Russian oil tycoon and billionaire Roman Abramovich's millions when he successfully took over the club in the summer of 2004.

It was a fortunate event however as Abramovich was flying back from a meeting with the smaller club situated in North London, no not Barnet, Tottenham Hotspurs, it was reported he spotted the Chelsea Village complex, whilst in his helicopter and that was that he had a change of heart and liked very much what he could see from the air. A meeting was arranged with the then chairman Ken Bates who could not refuse the offer of Roman buying out his 51% stake in the club, plus clearing the £80 million worth of debts and buying out the shareholders at an estimated price of 35p totalling £59.3 million. In total Roman paid £168.9 million for the club, on top of this he allowed new boss Jose Mourinho to go on a summer shopping spree totalling well in excess of £100 million, its this team now lead by the Portuguese mastermind that Chelsea fans far and wide hope can go on to complete an impressive treble success and ultimately Chelsea's first league title in 50 years.
